They don’t save lives, they may or may not be particularly smart, but they can capture hearts and minds of young and old. They earn an ungodly amount of money for playing a game for a living. And in having the adoration of the masses, they play hard, break rules and expect to be treated better than the rest of us. So we give them what they want.

For giving us what we want? What do we want and why?

I love the game of baseball. I love the intricacies of pitching, hitting, running and fielding (that’s all of it, right?) I love that a team could have the most mediocre players and be win it all because they are a team. I love that the Yankees aren’t that good although their management bought the best players money can buy but still haven’t figured out how to buy chemistry.

Totally agree with you, “the earn an ungodly amount of money for playing a game” I love the sport of baseball as well, but it is becoming a little bit ridiculous. The Yankees can’t win, so true, they should be 35 games above 500 with those kinds of players.
